Welcome
Rochester, NY— June 11, 2013 Legacy Women Institute International (LWII) launches its newest forum, Our Community Café in partnership with the American Association of University Women (AAUW). According to Dr. Cofield, founder and President, “A conversation provides a powerful way to make a difference in our world, to build community, and to enhance collective intelligence. We are excited about our partnership with the Diversity Team of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) where Our Community Café will be hosted monthly and cover a wide range of topics relevant to women. The first topic will cover one of the top issues women face as described by Sheryl Sandberg in her book “LEAN IN”.
According to Sandberg, women’s progress in achieving leadership roles has stalled. In her book, she explains the root causes, and offers compelling, commonsense solutions that can empower women to achieve their full potential.
Our Community Cafe participants will explore, café style, the nature of the problem, why something different must be done, and what role women can play to recast this future. They will explore whose responsibility it is to level the playing field for women. Dr. Cofield, in collaboration with other conscientious women including Kathy Roth, Mary Myers, and Heidi Parrerno, will facilitate a series of LEAN IN conversations at Our Community Café.
“I believe very deeply in the talent of women” says Kathy Roth, founder of Waterstone Partners, “ this forum will provide women with a place to share ideas, understand the obstacles, take action, and build relationships.”

Lean-In to Mosaic Connections:
Community of Women-to-Women
Monday, September 23 | 5:30 – 7:30 pm.
Join us as we complete our final round of Lean-In conversations. The response has been so great to this topic series that we are elevating it to a more comprehensive level. At our next session, we will introduce Lean-In to Mosaic Connections: Community of Women-to-Women, a 9-month matching program specifically designed to strengthen the social capital and connectedness between women. This program serves to unseed the effects of gender stereotyping, particularly the biases occurring between women. It is designed to powerfully unify women’s actions through collaboration, leveraging talent, and understanding our relationship to differences.
Dr. Melody Cofield, Legacy Women Institute International, President will facility the discussion and introduce the new program assisted by Heide Parreno, Diversity Chair of GRAB AAUW. Bring your own sandwich—tea and coffee will be provided free.

At our June 11th café, Dr. Cofield explored the question: “Are women responsible for their stalled leadership progress?” Over thirty-participants concluded that women are in deed responsible for their stalled leadership progress; however, they are not responsible for everything that holds them back. Most importantly, they agreed that in order to produce a different result, women must be the catalyst for their own change.
So, what can women do to harness the potential and level the playing field?”
At this café, we will explore just how expansive this field really is, how gender stereotyping creates bias, and how each thwarts the potential of women.
Are women responsible for stalling their leadership progress?
Venue: American Association of University Women (AAUW)
According to Sheryl Sandberg, author of LEAN IN, women’s progress in achieving leadership roles has stalled. In her book, she explains the root causes, and offers compelling, commonsense solutions that can empower women to achieve their full potential.
Participants attending the first Our Community Cafe will explore why this is true and what role can women play in reshaping this future. They will explore the generations most affected by the results and whose responsibility it is to level the playing field for women. Dr. Cofield, Founder and President, Legacy Women Institute International will facilitate the first of a series of LEAN IN conversations at Our Community Cafe.
